SPECIAL NOTICE - 14 September, 1999


Effective September 1, 1999, Beth Pieterson of Health Canada's Therapeutic Products Programme will succeed Dr. Elizabeth Jacobson of the United States' Food and Drug Administration as Chair of the Global Harmonization Task Force. A successful transition meeting took place in Ottawa on August 26-27, 1999, and existing GHTF records were officially transferred to Canada.

Ms. Pieterson will also chair an Ad Hoc Procedures Group charged with developing operating principles and procedures for the Task Force. The Procedures Group's first meeting will be held in Ottawa, Canada on October 5-6, 1999 and is open to interested parties wishing to attend as observers. As agreed to at the 7th Meeting of the GHTF, Canada, the United States, the European Union, Australia, and Japan will each be represented on the Procedures Group by a government and an industry representative. As part of the transition process and as follow-up to the 7th Meeting, the GHTF Web site is currently undergoing some reconstruction. The work is expected to be done by October 1, 1999, when responsibility for the site will also be transferred to Canada.
